Mixing varies according to the quality of the tracks recorded and the number of tracks to be processed and mixed.
1. Depending on the quality of the tracks recorded, the work involved in mixing varies enormously, because if the quality isn't up to scratch, there will be a lot of work to do to improve the tracks before mixing. AND mixing will be more complicated.
2. Depending on the number of tracks, the mixing process will be more or less rapid.
Mixing is the combination of these 2 elements. It therefore takes more or less time to perform.
That's why there are two types of mixing equipment.
